Nearest Airports

Option 1: Closest & Easiest – Ljubljana Jože Pučnik (LJU)

  • Distance to Krško (Reception): ~1 hr 20 mins / 130 km

  • Distance to Ljubljana (Church): ~25 mins / 26 km

  • Best for: Guests attending the Church Ceremony in Ljubljana and those prioritizing quick transfers to the capital.

 

Option 2: Nearby Regional – Zagreb Franjo Tuđman (ZAG), Croatia

  • Distance to Krško (Reception): ~1 hour / 70 km

  • Distance to Ljubljana (Church): ~1 hr 35 mins / 150 km

  • Best for: Guests driving directly to the Krško area (Reception) and those traveling from Serbia, Bosnia, or finding better budget flights.

 

Option 3: Major Hub Option – Venice Marco Polo (VCE), Italy

  • Distance to Krško (Reception): ~3 hrs 15 mins / 325 km

  • Distance to Ljubljana (Church): ~2 hours 20 mins / 230 km

  • Best for: Guests traveling from North America or international destinations who might find direct, budget-friendlier flight options and don’t mind a longer road transfer.

Transportation Options in Slovenia

Renting a Car
Renting a car is the most flexible option and is generally inexpensive in Slovenia compared to many other European destinations. This gives you the freedom to explore the stunning Slovenian Alps, the coast, or even other nearby countries (as suggested in the Explore the Area section).

Local Taxis

Uber
Uber is recently available in Slovenia, but as the service is quite new, reliability can sometimes be a factor, particularly outside of peak hours.

Public Transport
Arriva is a bus company that operates regular services between Ljubljana Airport (LJU) and the city centre. Tickets are purchased on board (cash only). Link: https://arriva.si/en/

Slovenske železnice is Slovenia’s national railway service, offering regular passenger train connections across the country, including the route from Krško to Ljubljana. Link: https://potniski.sz.si/en/

Pre-Booked Transfers

Driving in Slovenia

Currency

The local currency is the Euro (€). Credit/debit cards are widely accepted, but it’s useful to carry some cash for smaller shops, public transit etc.

Weather

June marks the start of summer in Krško, offering generally pleasant and warm weather. Daytime highs typically range from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F). Evenings can be cool, often dropping to 12°C to 15°C (54°F to 59°F).
